13th Doctor Comes Face To Face With Her Own Weeping Angel In Chilling Doctor Who Cosplay
As @thats.so.cosplay attended the Chicago TARDIS convention, she joined forces with fellow Thirteenth Doctor cosplayer Katie Haynes for a short video featuring their fantastic renditions of the Time Lord. What This Cosplay Means For The Thirteenth Doctor’s Weeping Angel Transformation
It Shows The Scene Is Still Impactful Today
The Thirteenth Doctor being taken into Division custody via a Weeping Angel transformation in Doctor Who season 13 remains one of the most striking and lasting images of Whittaker’s tenure, as shown by the fact that fans are still recreating it. The ability was a previously unseen phenomenon, so it took viewers by surprise and left them on edge until the following week as they witnessed the terrifying potential of Division. However, it is what was inferred by the twist that left a greater impact on longtime fans.
As the oldest and deadliest killers in the universe, much about the Weeping Angels is still shrouded in mystery, including their origins. As such, seeing the Thirteenth Doctor suddenly be turned into one of the creatures gave way for a potential theory. It called to mind a line from an earlier era of Doctor Who, when Timothy Dalton’s Rassilon instructed people to stand “like the Weeping Angels of old.” This, coupled with Thirteen’s shocking twist, seemed to finally address how Weeping Angels came to be. It was a huge moment in Doctor Who history, and the above cosplay highlights that.
Our Take On The Thirteenth Doctor’s Weeping Angel Transformation
The Moment Is A Highlight Of Whittaker’s Era
While many have critiqued how Whittaker’s Doctor Who era executed its storylines, there are several individual episodes and developments that stand out as some of the most exciting contributions to the series’ revival. From former showrunner Chris Chibnall’s takes on classic villains such as the Sontarans and Cybermen, to the introduction of Jo Martin’s Fugitive Doctor, the era produced plenty of twists to leave imaginations running.
