Former Doctor Who Star Wants To Return & Battle Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor

Doctor Who has introduced numerous villains in its over six-decade run. One wants to return to have a face-off with Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor.

Doctor Who is the longest-running science-fiction series in Britain. It has been airing for over 60 years, and countless villains have been featured. One wants to return onscreen for a duel against the Fifteenth Doctor. This might be possible since they are bringing back their character in a spinoff.

Sacha Dhawan previously appeared in Doctor Who as the Master. He is reprising the role in a new spinoff, Call Me Master, a three-part audio drama for Big Finish. In a recent interview, he talked about his role in the series and teased about a potential comeback. “Oh my God, I’m coming back! I’m coming back!” he told Radio Times while laughing, seemingly hinting about his return to the franchise via the Doctor Who spinoff project. When asked further, he said he would “love to come back” and reprise his role as the Master onscreen. “There’s certain things I’ll read… I think Ncuti [Gatwa] has mentioned the Master at some point,” Dhawan shared. “I think there’s more to play with – and I get slightly envious seeing how much fun they’re having in Cardiff.” Dhawan reflected on his character in Call Me Master and said there was still so much to know about the Master. “There’s always so much to investigate with the Master. I thought, ‘If I came back, what would I like to do?’ and there’s always been an ongoing thing for me of trying to figure out who the Master really is, underneath ‘the mask’ as it were… I think these episodes really tap into that,” he explained. “It sounds quite heavy, but actually within all of that, you’re still going to get the chaos, the amazing adventures, the fun, the unpredictability,” he added. With this revelation, a TV comeback for Dhawan as the Master is possible.

Dhawan made his debut in the franchise in Jodie Whittaker’s era as the Thirteenth Doctor. He first appeared in “Spyfall, Part 1” in 2020 and returned in more episodes. His version of the Master was unique because he seemingly combined the past incarnations with raw intensity, making the character unpredictable and unhinged with his manic energy and mood swings. He enjoys mind games and elaborate deceptions. However, he was obsessed with breaking the Doctor emotionally. Dhawan’s take on the Master was well-received because the chaotic reincarnation of the character made the villain stand out in this modern era. Dhawan was particularly praised for his energy, onscreen presence and the emotional depth he brought to the character.

Dhawan’s Master is one of the most interesting villains in the series. Also, in his last appearance, he is seemingly defeated and left to die after he fails to force him to regenerate into the Doctor. The character has a reputation for making his way back and with his vengeful nature, an encounter with the Fifteenth Doctor will be refreshing. Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor is expressive and emotional compared to Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor, which is emotionally guarded and secretive. So, Dhawan’s desire to have a face-off with Gatwa will give the audience a fresh experience. Gatwa and Dhawan have a strong screen presence and can be unpredictable, so a battle between the duo is more than welcome.
