Doctor Who’s Gatwa and Tennant: Head to Head at BAFTA Scotland Awards
The BAFTA Scotland Awards take place on Sunday the 17th of November and this year it’s Doctor vs Doctor in one of the categories. The Audience Award: Favourite Scot on Screen is the only BAFTA Scotland Award the public vote on, and gives them the chance to name their favourite Scottish actor from the previous 12 months. As you might expect, starring in one of the most high profile shows on British television earns Ncuti Gatwa a place among the nominees. But he’s not the only Scottish Doctor with a nomination this year. Thanks to the 60th Anniversary specials airing in late November and early December, David Tennant qualifies under the Doctor Who banner as well.
BAFTA Scotland have also nominated Tennant for Best Actor at this year’s ceremony, for his role in There She Goes.
This is David Tennant’s second time in line for the BAFTA Scotland Audience Award, after his 2021 nomination for Des. He’s also been nominated for Best Actor awards four times, including for Doctor Who in 2009. He’s once once, for his role as the brilliant but cynical barrister Will Burton in 2013’s The Escape Artist.
Meanwhile, Ncuti Gatwa’s track record is similar. It’s also his second time being nominated for the BAFTA Scotland Audience Award, following a 2022 nomination for Sex Education. He’s had three nominations as Best Actor, all also for Sex Education, winning once in 2020.
