Doctor Who Actor From Ninth Doctor Era Doesn’t Believe They Will Return To The Franchise

A major actor seemingly has no intention of ever returning to Doctor Who. The long-running show has been a dominant franchise for the BBC since it first premiered in 1963. It follows the ever-changing Doctor as he explores time and space, while he meets a variety of new companions and enemies along the way. Numerous stars have appeared in the show throughout its run, including Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), and Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother).

While on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) reflected on his own experience with the show. When prompted to share if he would return to the franchise, Pegg turned down the idea fairly quickly. His refusal was not firm, but he expressed that he was unsure that a reprisal was needed. Check out his quote below:

I don’t know. I mean, I kind of feel like, you know, because I played that one character, I don’t know if I’d go back and do it again.

What Simon Pegg’s Comments Mean For Doctor Who

Pegg May Not Return To The ShowJohn Hurt as the War Doctor on Gallifrey in Doctor Who

When he first entered the Doctor Who universe, Pegg played the Editor in 2005’s season 1, episode 7, “The Long Game”. The story focuses on a futuristic broadcast satellite, which controls the news, game shows, and other TV programs for the human empire. The Editor appears to be entirely in charge of the network’s broadcasts, but it is later revealed to work for the inhuman Jagrafess. The Editor is ultimately killed along with the Jagrafess, allowing humanity to break free from its subservience to the alien creature. After leaving the show, Pegg did not appear again.

While he may currently lack any interest in pursuing a return to the show, that could change if he is presented with the right opportunity.’

Of course, Pegg’s comments were not wholly definitive. He continually repeated “I don’t know” when considering a potential new role. While he may currently lack any interest in pursuing a return to the show, that could change if he is presented with the right opportunity. It would also need to work with his schedule. Pegg has starred in many movies and shows, so finding time to make another appearance in the classic British sci-fi hit would undoubtedly be a challenge for him. If a perfect role does not present itself, he is unlikely to agree.

Pegg Is Making The Right Decision

As much as it would be fun to see Pegg return, he has no true motivation to. He has already left his mark on the show, and he has been involved in numerous other beloved science fiction projects. He worked on Star WarsStar TrekThe Boys, and countless others. Returning to Doctor Who would be a thrilling prospect, but he would likely only take another one-off role like The Editor. Pegg has already proven himself. The return is likely not worth the hassle of scheduling and organizing the production.
