Kadiff Kirwan has become the latest high-profile star to join Doctor Who. The new BBC series beginning next month will return with stars Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu in a new adventure. The 36-year-old actor has played Aaron in Chewing Gum, Henri Dupre in a 2020 episode of Death In Paradise, and is Marcus in Slow Horses. While his role in the Doctor Who universe remains a mystery the small-screen star admitted he is “elated” to be a part of the show.

Kadiff said: “I feel elated to be joining the rich legacy of actors who have guest-starred in Doctor Who. Russell T Davies and Juno Dawson have truly outdone themselves with this episode in what I can only describe as an intergalactic gargantuan extravaganza. It’s packed with gravity-defying mastery beyond imagination, and being a part of it is an absolute dream. Strap in Whovians, this one is gonna rock your world!”

Showrunner Russell T Davies added: “We’re so lucky in Cardiff to open the doors to world-class talent, and it’s been a riot, getting to work with Kadiff.

“I’ve loved his work on TV, and stage for a long time, so when we realised he was available and happy to come on board, that was truly a great day in the office!”

The new series of Doctor Who will be the second to feature Ncuti as the fifteenth Doctor, and it begins on April 12.

Kadiff is not the only famous face to be joining the lineup, as it was revealed earlier this month that TV presenter Rylan Clark had landed a guest role for himself as the host of an outer space version of Eurovision called Interstellar Song Contest in one episode.

He gushed: “As a massive Whovian, getting the call to be in Doctor Who was a call I’ve always dreamed of getting. The episode is all my favourite things about the show with an added song contest set in space.”

“It really is a dream come true. I can’t wait for everyone to see it. It is going to be out of this world.”

On Sunday, the trailer for the new series was released and additional guest stars spotted in the trailer, adventuring with the Doctor, Belinda and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), included Anita Dobson, Bonnie Langford, Jemma Redgrave, Caoilfhionn Dunne, Christopher Chung, Evelyn Miller, Ariyon Bakare, Julie Dray and Jonah Hauer-King.
