‘Excitement Mounts’: Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who Season 2 Episode Titles Confirmed

Doctor Who has confirmed episode titles for its upcoming second season. The hit Disney+ and BBC science fiction series will return on April 12 with all-new episodes.

The show’s official website has revealed that Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies will write five of the season’s eight episodes, starting with the season premiere, “The Robot Revolution,” which is directed by It’s a Sin and Daredevil‘s Peter Hoar. Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor meets a new friend in this episode, as Varada Sethu joins the TARDIS as companion Belinda Chandra.

Doctor Who Season 2 Has Eight All-New Episodes

Here’s the official synopsis for Doctor Who‘s season 2 premiere: “The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-travelling TARDIS team must face great dangers, ferocious enemies and wilder terrors than ever before.”

The showrunner has also penned episode two, “Lux,” and Gentleman Jack‘s Amanda Brotchie directs. Davies collaborated with Sharma Angel Walfall in writing episode three, “The Well,” with Brotchie directing. Hoar returns to direct episode four, “Lucky Day,” from a script by Doctor Who veteran Pete McTighe (“Kerblam!” and “Praxeus”). Episode five, “The Story & The Engine,” comes from poet and playwright Inua Ellams and director Makalla McPherson (EastEnders and Waterloo Road).

Episode six, “The Interstellar Song Contest,” has been penned by young adult fiction writer Juno Dawson and will feature Big Brother UK‘s Rylan Clark as the host of a dangerous competition. Ben A. Williams directs “The Interstellar Song Contest” after previously working on science fiction series Humans and Baghdad Central.

  • Varada Sethu previously appeared in the Doctor Who season 1 episode, “Boom,” as Anglican Army soldier Mundy Flynn.
  • Her new character Belinda Chandra will be meeting The Doctor for the first time in season 2, but he recognizes there is something familiar about his new friend.
  • Sethu previously confirmed there will be “nods” to her playing two Doctor Who characters, but insisted Belinda is “completely different” than Mundy.

Davies is back to write the final two episodes of season 2, “Wish World” and “The Reality War,” both directed by Alex Sanjiv Pillai after he helmed Doctor Who‘s 2024 Christmas special “Joy to the World).

“Excitement mounts as the new season gets closer, and there’s nothing a Doctor Who fan loves more than facts! So here’s a whole bunch of them, with titles and writers, everything you need to get ready for transmission,” Doctor Who showrunner Davies teased.

Alongside Gatwa and Sethu, Doctor Who season 2 will feature the return of Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, as well as Susan Twist (presumably as Susan Triad), Jemma Redgrave, Bonnie Langford and Ruth Madeley as UNIT’s Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, Melanie Bush and Shirley Ann Bingham, respectively. Previously-announced newcomers include Alan Cumming playing Mr Ring-a-Ding, Slow Horses‘ Christopher Chung as Cassio and House of the Dragon‘s Freddie Fox as a mysterious villain.

Season 2’s newest official cast member is Kadiff Kirwan, best known for Black Mirror and Fleabag. Kirwan will have an undisclosed role in the Dawson-penned episode, “The Interstellar Song Contest.”

I feel elated to be joining the rich legacy of actors who have guest-starred in Doctor Who. Russell T Davies and Juno Dawson have truly outdone themselves with this episode in what I can only describe as an intergalactic gargantuan extravaganza,” Kirwan said. “It’s packed with gravity-defying mastery beyond imagination, and being a part of it is an absolute dream. Strap in Whovians, this one is gonna rock your world!”

Davies added: “We’re so lucky in Cardiff to open the doors to world-class talent, and it’s been a riot, getting to work with Kadiff. I’ve loved his work on TV, and stage for a long time, so when we realized he was available and happy to come on board, that was truly a great day in the office!”
