Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has dropped a tease about the upcoming season that has settled my nerves about the return of Anita Dobson’s Mrs. Flood. After debuting in 2023’s “The Church on Ruby Road,” Dobson went on to quietly permeate Doctor Who season 14’s cast, but the show still hasn’t answered who the mysterious character is. Instead, we’ve been left to wonder about who Dobson is really playing, and her connection to Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) and the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa).

Mrs. Flood is one of the most enigmatic figures in Doctor Who‘s Disney era so far. She is made even more compelling by the fact she only appears sporadically, and more questions are raised about her on each occasion. The trailers for the upcoming run of episodes have confirmed that Mrs. Flood will continue to be part of Doctor Who season 15’s story, but the brief shots of her still don’t give much away. Thankfully, Davies has shed a little more light on what Mrs. Flood’s role will look like when Doctor Who returns.

Speaking with SFX Magazine (via Games Radar), Russell T Davies has confirmed that Mrs. Flood is in “every single episode,” of Doctor Who season 15 and that there will be “spectacular answers” to the question of who Dobson’s character is and why she has the knowledge and ability to break the fourth wall. I’m ecstatic that the show is finally deciding to so heavily address the enigma of Mrs. Flood’s existence, as it was starting to bug me how cryptic all the clues were starting to become.

Interestingly, Davies also stated in the same interview that spotting Mrs. Flood in Doctor Who season 15 won’t always be an easy task. It seems as though at least some of her cameos will be difficult to notice, making them possible to miss. This brings to mind the pattern of Susan Twist’s Susan Triad and her appearances in Doctor Who season 14. So, just as Susan Twist’s true role in the story was unveiled at the end of Doctor Who season 14, I expect the season 15 finale to do something similar for Mrs. Flood.

The reveal of all the Susans secretly being Sutekh’s angels of death was well executed, but I think Davies really dropped the ball when it came to resolving the mystery behind Ruby Sunday’s unknown lineage. The show was clearly trying to convince the audience that Millie Gibson’s character was very special, but her hooded birth mother turned out to be nothing more than a run-of-the-mill human. With any luck, the Doctor Who showrunner has written a reveal for Mrs. Flood that is more like Susan Triad’s than Ruby Sunday’s.
