Prince Harry “has now been substituted for Prince George” as the young royal and his dad Prince William joined back up with a Christmas tradition they had been absent from in recent years, it is claimed.

Monarch-in-waiting Prince William and his footie-loving son Prince George made a smashing duo during a pre-Christmas match, delighting onlookers with their first ever joint appearance on the field.

The pair were part of the traditional friendly game between Sandringham estate workers and villagers, while Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis cheered from the side.

And a royal insider claimed to the Sun that “it was interesting to see that Harry has now been substituted for Prince George”.

The source is reported to have claimed that William came close to netting a goal and young George was seen giving his all, providing a prime example of “healthy father-and-son bonding time” and young George now seems to have stepped into Uncle Harry’s shoes in this family tradition.

The source added: “There were other children playing and it was all good fun and light-hearted. It is nice that they have returned to take part in the traditional game as they haven’t done so for years. But it was interesting to see that Harry has now been substituted for Prince George.”

Previously, the pair have been spotted at Villa Park supporting Aston Villa and celebrating England’s Euro 2024 final win against Spain. The Princess of Wales caught eyes too, looking resplendent in her sophisticated ensemble while she supported her family.

In 2020, Prince William disclosed on That Peter Crouch Podcast that he is allowing his son George to make his own choices regarding football, stating: “I’m trying not to persuade him to be a Villa fan, I’m letting him choose his own way. It’s about finding what fits for him.”

George’s exploration of football isn’t the only exciting endeavour he’s undertaken, as he has also taken to the skies. Aged 11, the young prince had his first flying lesson in Windsor, where with his parents watching, he successfully navigated an aircraft at White Waltham Airfield, close to the family’s Adelaide Cottage home.

This thrilling experience was the perfect conclusion to his summer break.
