Meghan Markle Makes Silly Blunder In Latest Social Media Name Return!
Meghan Markle made a surprise return to Instagram on New Year's Day - but fans couldn't help but notice one major blunder in her name.
Meghan Markle has made a return to Instagram
Beady-eyed royal fans appear to spot one very awkward blunder in the name used on Meghan Markle’s new Instagram account.
The Duchess of Sussex, who originally set up the account in 2022, surprised fans by returning to the social media platform on New Year’s Day.
In the short reel uploaded to her account – which has the simple handle of ‘meghan’ – the former working royal can be seen running along the beach before she bends over to write ‘2025’ in the wet sand.
After watching her first upload, fans were quick to point out that the account name had been quietly changed from just ‘Meghan’ to ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’ – seemingly missing out the ‘The’.
And fans were quick to point out that the omission of ‘the’ is a bit of a blunder, and carried a very different meaning.
A royal fanpage on X, formerly known as Twitter, posted screenshots of the error, writing, ‘Duchess Meghan has returned to social media with a Instagram account ‘Meghan.’ Her first post is a video filmed by Prince Harry on the beach. She writes 2025 in the sand.
“Hopefully we will see another update, as she left out the ‘The’ in her title. No ‘The’ before Duchess of Sussex means she is a divorcee.”
Another wrote: “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is the divorced style.”
Meghan is happily married to Prince Harry, and can’t have realised the significance of leaving out ‘the’
Prince Andrew’s former wife goes by ‘Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York’. The 65-year-old hasn’t included ‘The’ in her title since their divorce in 1996.
Meghan’s account was set up in June 2022
The eagle-eyed fans also spotted that the account had been set up in June 2022 – but had remained inactive until January 1, 2025.
Although her social media return has received mixed feelings, many Sussex fans seem ecstatic for Meghan’s return.
With one fan expressing that they “can’t wait” to see what she has in store with her account, another took to X to comment: “Happy New Year to Meghan Markle! So happy for her after everything she’s been through! Can’t wait to see her Instagram posts again!”
Another wrote: “She looks so carefree! I’m so happy for her and her little family!”
As of 10am BST on January 2, Meghan has 675k followers on her Instagram account.
