The Duke of Sussex, 40, has spoken about being a spare many times over the last few years.

Prince Harry has referred to himself many times over the last five years as a ‘Spare’, with the Duke of Sussex, 40, claiming that was what his role was as a result of being the second child of a King. However, while Harry has always said he felt this way in relation to his older brother Prince William, to the extent he even named his memoir Spare, one expert now believes that the duke may be a spare in another aspect of his life.

Since leaving the Royal Family five years ago with his wife Meghan Markle, the couple have been in and out of the spotlight. However, this changed for Meghan, 43, last week as her Netflix show “With Love, Meghan” aired. While fans knew the duchess would be at the heart of the show, many were surprised at just how little Prince Harry featured in the series, with Shane Watson, a columnist for The Times, believing the duke may be a “spare part” in his wife’s new project.

When talking about the duke’s very short cameo in the Netflix show, she said: “Blink and you’ll miss him.

“Not only that, he’s wedged at the back of the crowd of well-wishers at her signing-off party. He seems diminished, unsure of what’s expected of him.”

While Meghan may be focusing on her Netflix show, which has been renewed for a second season, and new lifestyle brand As Ever, the prince is instead focusing on work away from the public eye such as charity events.

In a surprise LA appearance just weeks ago, Harry spoke at an event and shared how his life has been committed to service, which is something he still prides himself on.

Talking to the audience, he said: “Because before I moved (to America), so much of my life revolved around charity.

“Since then, while my charities remain a core part of my life’s work, I’ve also been focusing on upstream solutions and prevention, driven by decisions and investments that address problems before they require fixing.”
