The Prince of Wales has major plans for a key member of the Royal Family when he becomes King, insiders have claimed.

Prince William is slowly preparing a strong support group for when he ascends the throne and according to Palace sources he and the Princess of Wales are big fans of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

Duchess Sophie has been quietly carrying out her duties as the Royal Family came to terms with the new normal following King Charles and Princess Kate’s cancer diagnoses last year.

Next Monday, January 20, Sophie will hit a major milestone as she will celebrate turning 60, with the Sunday Times claiming there is more in store for the royal in the future.

A royal insider told the outlet: “They [the Waleses and the Edinburghs] get on very well.”

They added that they believe that the Prince of Wales, as William V, will be “eager for his aunt and uncle to play a more prominent role in public life”.

Sophie has long been dubbed the Royal Family’s “secret weapon” as her and Prince Edward’s popularity have been steadily increasing over the years.

Sophie, who shared a special relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth, carried out 257 official engagements last year. Her husband clocked up a total of 293.

The outlet claimed that she has come to embody the Firm’s ‘keep calm and carry on’ after a period filled with feuds, scandals and health scares.

A former Palace aide close to Sophie said: “She’s tough, she knows her own mind and will argue her corner.

“There was always a danger people underestimated her but she stood up for herself, for Edward, for them as a couple.”

The duchess is tipped to celebrate her milestone birthday next week “privately” at Bagshot Park, where she resides with Prince Edward.

Their children are expected to send their birthday wishes as Lady Louise Windsor is currently studying at St Andrews University and James, Earl of Wessex is at a boarding school in Oxfordshire.
