Inside Meghan Markle’s Long-Standing Feud with Donald Trump: How His Warning Could Impact Archie and Lilibet
Their alleged feud stretches back almost a decade
On Monday (January 20), Trump, 78, was sworn in as the 47th President of the US, ending Joe Biden’s four years in office.
Meghan, 43, and Trump’s ‘feud’ has been ongoing for some years now, stretching back to her days appearing in US drama Suits…
Meghan Markle and Donald Trump’s ‘feud’
Back in 2016, during Trump’s first election campaign, Meghan – who was still working on Suits at the time – spoke out against him.
She urged her fans and followers not to vote for him, branding him “misogynistic” and “divisive”.
“You don’t really want that kind of world,” she said on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.
However, in 2019, Trump only had positive things to say about Meghan. The president was on a state visit to the UK at the time. However, his meeting coincided with Meghan’s maternity leave – meaning they didn’t get to meet in the flesh.
However, Trump was all praise for Meghan, who he branded “very nice”. He also called Prince Harry a “terrific guy”.
A year later, Trump’s opinion on the Sussexes changed. When the royal couple announced in 2020 that they were stepping away from their senior royal roles, Trump took to Twitter to slam them.
What Donald Trump has said about Meghan and Harry
In a furious tweet, he wrote: “I am a great friend and admirer of the queen and the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”
Harry and Meghan, however, had never intended for the US taxpayer to pay for their security.
During Trump’s re-election campaign later that year, Harry and Meghan appeared in a video urging Americans to “vote against hate speech”. Though they didn’t refer to Trump by name, many felt as though this video was a dig against him.
After the video, Trump spoke out against Meghan, saying he was “no fan” of hers.
“I wish a lot of luck to Harry, he’s going to need it,” he added.
Donald Trump slams Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
After losing the 2020 election, Trump hit out at the Sussexes on numerous occasions.
During a chat with Nigel Farage, he said that Harry’s marriage had “ruined his relationship with his family” and that it “hurts the queen”.
In 2023, following the release of Harry’s memoir Spare, in which the duke openly spoke about his use of drugs, a lawsuit was launched demanding the US Government release records about his US visa application to show whether his drug use was disclosed.
Trump was furious when the Biden administration opted to keep the contents of Harry’s visa private. They did this to “protect” Harry.
In an interview with the Express US, Trump raged: “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me.”
Trump also told Farage that there would be no “special privileges” for Harry, and that “appropriate action” should be taken if it was found out that he’d lied in his visa application.
By appropriate action, he may have meant deportation, which would have had a huge impact on the Sussexes and their young children.
