How Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive Oprah interview left ill-stricken Prince Philip ‘worried’ in his final weeks

It’s been four years since the tell-all chat aired. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s bombshell revelations were looked upon with wide eyes across the globe as pressure mounted against Buckingham Palace.
One individual in particular was reportedly especially impacted by the interview, due to his ill health – the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. This is how Harry and Meghan’s famed 2021 interview allegedly made Prince Philip feel…

How Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview ‘impacted’ Prince Philip
The year was 2021, the world was still reeling from the Covid pandemic and only just getting its bearings in wake of several lockdowns.
Prince Philip had been admitted to hospital in February 2021 after becoming unwell. At the time, he underwent a heart procedure on a pre-existing condition.
All the while, Harry and Meghan’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey was imminent.
According to reports, calls to CBS and ITV with requests to delay the interview were ignored. Consequently, the schedule went ahead as planned.
In his book, Battle of Brothers, royal historian Robert Lacey suggests that Philip wasn’t particularly troubled by the interview itself. However, he was concerned about the way Harry and Meghan had conducted themselves.
He thought Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey was ‘madness’.
He wrote: “Philip was unconcerned, according to his friend and biographer Gyles Brandreth. What did worry him, said Brandreth, was ‘the couple’s preoccupation with their own problems.’
“I know from someone closer to him that he thought Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey was ‘madness’ and ‘no good would come of it.’”

The royal family’s reaction to Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview revelations
Despite often encouraging royal family members to give interviews, Prince Philip emphasised the importance of modesty and discretion.
Lacey goes on to explain: “‘Give TV interviews by all means’ was the rule that the duke shared with all his children. It was part of the royal job in the modern world.
“But they should never forget that discretion and modesty were integral to being a member of the British royal family – ‘Don’t talk about yourself.’”
Only three weeks and three days after being discharged from the hospital, Philip died in his sleep at Windsor Castle. He was 99.
It was said he was “unable to play any part” in the family’s response to Harry and Meghan’s accusations.
Queen Elizabeth II released a statement on the interview at the time, stating: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
When asked about the interview, Charles reportedly responded with a chuckle.
In response to questions about Harry and Meghan’s revelations, Prince William was said to have insisted: “We are very much not a racist family.”
Harry and Meghan’s revelations
Harry and Meghan had made several accusations in the interview. Shockingly, they claimed that there had been “concerns and conversations” shared by a family member about “how dark” their son Archie’s skin would be when he was born.
Prince Harry even claimed that he had been cut off financially from his family in the “first quarter” of 2020.
He also expressed that King Charles and Prince William were “trapped within the system” of the royal family and shared his compassion for that.
Prince Harry went on to claim that his father had stopped taking his calls at one point.
Sadly, Meghan expressed that she had endured suicidal thoughts whilst being part of The Firm.
