Paramount+’s hit drama series Landman has just wrapped Season 2. With a season finale that went full circle to Season 1’s ending, the show left people impatiently waiting for more.
Luckily, Paramount+ has already confirmed Landman would return for Season 3. However, there have been multiple questions about whether lead star Billy Bob Thornton’s time as Tommy Norris has come to an end. Speaking to USA Today, Thorton has just broken the silence on the reports, slamming them as “AI-generated crap.”
Landman has already found Tommy Norris’ replacement as president of M-Tex Oil company, as Demi Moore’s Cami Miller shockingly fired him in the penultimate episode of Season 2. While the story happened on the small screen, multiple reports claimed Thornton was leaving the series.
However, the actor slammed the rumors. “There’s an AI report that Demi [Moore] and I are a couple now, and there’s one that I’m leaving the show. They have nothing to do with reality.”

Shocking twist for Landman: sad news leaves fans worriedFebruary 9, 2026
Since Landman Season 3 has been officially greenlit, the Oscar-winning actor confirmed, “I’ll be there.”
Thornton didn’t share any details about what’s to come in the upcoming season, but he shared his willingness to continue to be a part of Landman for as long as it airs. “It’s been great working with Sam,” the actor said about working with Western legend Sam Elliott, who joined the series in Season 2 as Tommy’s father.
He clarified, “I love doing the show. I’ll be here as long as it plays out. If it’s five years, great. If it’s six, I’m there.”
So far, there aren’t many details about Landman Season 3. The show’s follow-up doesn’t have a release date, but it’s expected it would happen sometime in late 2026. The series debuted on Nov. 17, 2024, airing Season 1 until Jan. 12. Season 2 started filming in early April 2025, with a release one year after the show’s debut, on Nov. 16, 2025. Season 2 wrapped on Jan. 18.
Season 3 will start production in the spring, with Elliott himself teasing that they are going back to work around May. If it maintains a similar production time, it’s expected Landman would return for Season 3 in November. Paramount+ has yet to fully confirm the release date.
Landman Season 2 Turned Out to Be Divisive
The latest Taylor Sheridan series has remained consistent when it comes to its critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Both seasons received a Certified Fresh 78% approval score, with praise for Billy Bob Thornton’s performance, but criticism over how it handled its female characters.

Season 2 proved to be divisive, as the audience score is almost half of the critics’ one. The follow-up received a 41% approval score, with reviews complaining about the drama that has nothing to do with the oil theme.
“Episode after episode of Landman with no Landman or very little story about oil patch at all. People wanted raw Billy Bob and they turned him into a sissy with a supporting role in a boring [daytime] soap opera,” reads one review from the audience.
Landman Season 2 is now available to stream on Paramount+.
